Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!
If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

My Family Footprint
In my house there is three people living in it all the time; however, sometimes through the year we have four, due to my brother away at college. When we only have three people living there we have a lot of wast. We tend to buy local food. We also raise our own livestock, consisting of chickens turkeys and pigs. We also have a small garden and can the food we don't eat right when we pick it.
Even though we grow we might need to buy some food from the store, but we try to buy locally gown food so we can try to cut back on food miles. Even though we try to keep things local there are sometimes those times when you buy something from far away. We heat our house with oil, that is not good for the environment. Where I live it is difficult to have other heating systems though, and the "environmentally friendly" systems are more expensive. My family tries to do good to the environment but my parents drive farther distances each day to get to work. I think that a great way to cut back on your footprint is to drive less and shut off lights. Eat local food and try not to heat your house over the top.
