Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!
If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

My Family Footprint
If I were to own a house, I would try my best to keep it energy efficient by installing things like solar panels and a rain tank. I would get my electricity from solar panels and water power. Living near I river, I could set up a system to get power from that river. I would also live near a school, bus and Bart station and other necessary places so I could walk to them instead of using a car. I would have a car that is fully electric so I can get to far destinations but I would use it as little as possible. My food would come from local farms that use their resources to save water and energy or bigger corporations if they have low energy use. In order to save the energy that goes into meat production, I would be vegetarian which I am now which significantly lowered by carbon footprint. Being a vegetarian made the food section of my carbon footprint about 1/8 as large as the average.
