Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!
If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

My Family Footprint
After calculating my carbon footprint I realized that my family's home is well above the average and I wasn’t very surprised because my house has a lot of lights and other things that release carbon dioxide. If I were to have my own home I would make many changes to help the environment. I would install solar panels, try to find a home near water to help reduce the level of carbon dioxide, have an automatic light system, and make sure that we use fluorescent lights because they are very energy efficient. I would also make the decision to live close to a school so that the children in the home could walk to school instead of burning fossil fuels five times a week.
I love it Matthew. These are all possible cures to help the environment and benefit all of us. When you get your own home I hope you do this so it could make the world a better place. The solar panel idea is excellent I believe that solar panels were a marvelous invention. I'm sure everybody knows that solar energy is energy directly from the sun but it also reduces our dependence on fossil fuels. In conclusion, everything you stated were brilliant ideas to help the environment.
Your ideas are really great and are what everyone should do. Of course not everyone has the money to install solar panels but it is still a great idea. Everyone should be this thoughtful before buying a home
