MY Family Footprint

Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!

If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

My Family Footprint

I live with 4 other people and my family footprint is pretty high but I believe I know some ways to reduce our home footprint. Things like turning off the lights when you leave a room, turning your thermostat off before you leave the house, eat organic foods , reduce water usage, alternatives to driving, and supporting clean energy  sources. I believe with all these suggestions we can reduce our carbon footprints where little things like these can make a big difference.

I live with 3 other people and the changes you can make are the exact ones I can make. My family tends to use a lot of electricity so from now on, especially this summer I will try to use natural light. I will also see if I could ask my dad to change to LED lights instead of incandescent bulbs because research shows that LED lights are converted into energy and only 5% is used as actual heat. Less energy reduces greenhouse gases which I think can be very helpful. I believe this could be a big way to reduce my family footprint because this had a huge impact on my footprint alone.
