Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!
If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?
MY Family Footprint >
Personal CO2 Output
As a student in Maine, I had no idea what CO2 was, or how much my family and I was producing. After getting educated about this subject in my Science class, I learned that something must be done about it. No matter, how small, since every little bit counts. Like turning off the water while you brush your teeth, or cutting down your shower time by a minute or two everyday. Even though it's just for class and really has no impact on us currently, it is our future we are ruining. If we want a healthy Earth for us and our children, something must be done, and soon before it is too late.
I agree. I didn’t know either. I actually thought that I had the average CO2 footprint, but when it turned out to be twice the average, it was very disturbing to me. For that problem was heat usage in the winter. I think the thing we need to do is to conserve, and depend less on manmade procedures and more in tune with nature, that sort of thing. It’s great that you know this now so you can do better in the future to help you and others decrease carbon footprints. Spread the word!
I agree with you. Our carbon footprint output is a serious problem in which not many are fully aware of. It is important that we take steps to improve on reducing our CO2 count for the health of our current state and for future generations. Taking small steps such as turning off the lights when not in use, or walking instead of driving will make of value in the long run. If we all take these small steps, we can make even more of a significant impact. I feel that it is important that more and more people become aware on this topic so that making a significant impact can be possible.
