MY Family Footprint

Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!

If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

If I had the opportunity to own a house, I would do many things to make it more energy efficient. First, I would get all my electricity from solar panels and solar energy, because it is such a sustainable source that does not emit CO2 into the environment. My house would be near many CO2 sinks, such as near an ocean, many trees- just a natural environment. I would live as close as possible to the schools or working areas, so I can walk there instead of driving a car and adding CO2 to the air. Last of all, I would only support and buy locally grown food, because again my main goal is to use as  less carbon as possible and keep my carbon footprint low, and if food was locally grown there wouldn't have to be ships and planes traveling far to deliver foods.  However, this is not possible today, or highly unlikely, because through my experience and observations I see that people just don't care about their carbon footprint.

This is a very good idea, and can help the environment and create less CO2

Ken I agree with the idea of living in a healthy environment to help make the world a better place. An example of a healthy environment to live in would be Tasmania, Australia as it says on the website http://www.travelandleisure.com/article … eanest-air Tasmania has the cleanest air in the world due to their great and clean environment and low CO2 intake. this shows that with a good environment it can make a healthy lifestyle not only for the people but for the planet for us all to live in.

This is good Ken. Your plan to live healthy will greatly decrease your carbon footprint. However, I think you should also focus on the belongings found in your house. You can greatly lower your carbon footprint by driving a fuel efficient car and keeping appliances electric. Finally, you can keep your groceries organic and support locally produced food.

Our world now is suffering from the use of too much carbon emissions,  Our planet gets warmer each year by a substantial amount. We must find new ways to fuel our transportation, now the government is planning on changing Cal-Train's current diesel locomotives to using clean electric locomotives, also advancing in technology. http://sf.streetsblog.org/2017/02/22/pe … on-funds/, this is a petition to Mr.Trump asking for funds to begin the construction of locomotives and tracks.

Good job Ken, all of these methods you plan to start doing will lower your carbon footprint count massively. Solar panels will not only help the environment and lower your carbon footprint, but it will also drop your electric bill dramatically. Your idea of solar panels persuaded me to get them in the future as well. I also like how you take an act of eating organic, I realized that this also won't just lower your carbon footprint count, but it will help you become healthier in the long run. Overall, good job.
