Before this class I have never heard of things like carbon footprints or caring much about it. I have now realize that my simple daily activities are effecting the planet. My carbon footprint is 24,402, mainly due to transportation and home energy. I already know what to do to keep it all at bay for myself but what other ways to help educate others?
Although I had been taught about ways to reduce my carbon footprint and how i can change my habits that are negatively impacting the planet, I definitely need constant reminders about how I am wasting energy and what it is doing to the planet. I believe that we need to bring the importance of conserving energy into the public's view. For example, simple billboards reminding people about how their carbon footprint is influencing the earth and what they can do about it would definitely change people's habits. I think that if we also made other options like public transportation, walking, and riding bicycles more accessible to the general public, less people would drive their own cars. I also believe that if we could make these changes more affordable, people would conserve energy even if they were not trying to conserve energy. For example, if solar panels were more affordable, more people would use them as their main source of electricity, which would result in people having a smaller carbon footprint.
