MY Family Footprint

Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!

If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

I don't know what the point in walking is when you have a car. A bike or on foot you can not get to some of the jobs you need to get to. A car is helpful to get you to things on time and make it easier to get to your job. A bike or on foot may help in a small community when you can walk easier then you can drive. So I believe this is a big fact in carbon footprint.

I agree 100%! When some people live really far away, let's say 30 miles,  from their job or even school they really need to use a car to get there. It helps a lot for when traveling. But when you only have to walk about a block to get to where you need that is when it would be a bad idea to drive. So people are just too lazy to walk a little bit and it does hurt our ecosystem.

I agree with both of your statements, people who drive very short distances are being lazy, they are saving time for themselves, however, the poor effect it has on our ecosystem outweighs that idea of saving time. The more that people drive instead of bike or walk, there will be an increasing amount of carbon emissions that we as people will have to worry about in the future. I for one, bike practically everywhere, it gives me a great exercise and gets me to where i want to be. If more people did what i do, and what i am sure millions of others do, than we will be doing our environment a great deal of help. According to (Icebike.org) biking will save money, give the biker a better immune system, increase vitamin D, and much more. It is clear that people should be biking places more often.
