Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!
If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

My Family Footprint
At the moment, I live in a house with five other people. Our house is in a great location near the local public schools that my siblings attend. However, our house was built over a century ago and it is expensive and practically unaccessible for us to have a more energy efficient household. If I had my own home, I would make it more energy efficient by investing in solar panels and consuming foods such as fruits and vegetables from a garden on my imaginary property. I would also want to have chickens so I can have my own eggs and then have them eat my compostable food scraps. My virtual house would have to be close to a bus stop and walkable to certain areas to prevent leaving a large carbon footprint.
I completely agree. I live in a house with a family of four. We eat meat, we do online shopping, most of our heat is gas and we don't pay attention to the little things like leaving lights on and long showers. I fell as though it is sad that many people don't know or were never taught the consequences of our actions and how we can really hurt our planet. Thinking about this on an even wider scale, most people around the world do not get the opportunity to learn about global warming as well as greenhouse gases and what they do to our planet. I fell that it is really important that we try to better educate people in our community or even people around the world about limiting their carbon footprint and what they can do to help our planet.
I agree with both of you guys. I live with three other people, and we use up a lot of electricity. My house, like you Eleanor, was built over 100 years ago, meaning that it is not as eco-friendly as other houses. We eat a decent amount of meat (none of us are vegetarian) and we don't pay much attention to our water usage. I think that we should all be more aware and add eco-friendly details to our homes. People should become more educated on global warming and its consequences, which will help us create a healthier earth.
