MY Family Footprint

Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!

If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

better your carbon footprint

I think it is pretty unrealistic for most people to completely change their lifestyles to better their carbon footprint. For example, I have a big family and we all have busy lives, so our carbon footprints are not great. but, there are so many simple ways we can better our footprint, without major changes. such as growing your own plants and vegetables and carpooling as much as possible. saving electricity, recycling, and cutting down waste. there are so many more ways that are easy for everyone to do to better our carbon footprints!

I totally agree with you. I don't come from a big family but I now people who do. Your ideas about growing plants/vegetables and carpooling are great ideas. Carpooling is a big way for big families to cut down on their carbon footprints. Saving all the gas and CO2 being emitted by so many different cars/transportation would be a great way to lower your carbon emissions. I think that there are definitely more ways for both big and small families to lower their carbon footprints as well !

I agree and I can relate to you as well because I come from a big family and we travel a lot too.  My family's carbon footprint is pretty bad too and there are so many levels that we can improve on. One of your ideas that you talked about was carpooling and I thought that was a great idea because it just not healthy or not good to just drive everyday by yourself. That worsens your carbon footprint but you can improve it by taking and offering rides to others. My family can also improve by saving energy. Examples are by turning off the faucet while you are brushing your teeth or turning off the light when it is not useful.
