MY Family Footprint

Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!

If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

My Family Footprint

My family footprint is very high compared to average, because we live in a farm 32 km from where i go to school and my dad works. My mom also travels alot for work to other countries. We canĀ“t do so much about all the driving but we can to some other changes instead. Some of the things we can do is waste less food,  turn off the lights while we have daylight and take shorter showers.

I agree with you and also can relate to you, unnurmaraingvarsdttir. We share the common problem of being relatively far away from places we need to be. For example, I live in Hayward and go to school in Oakland so the commute to and from school is not the shortest. Also, my dad works in north Berkeley and again lives in Hayward.

I agree with both of you. My family footprint is very high because of travel. My mother travels for work, and my father drives my siblings around very frequently to practices, school, and extra curricular activities. We don't live far away from most of the areas we commute to, however we do it so often, that it brought our footprint up a lot.
