MY Family Footprint

Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!

If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

Thoughts on a better lifestyle

If I had enough money, I would buy a hybrid car and use led lights. I would also recycle and do the compost. To go to school/work, if far from my home, I would try to go by train (like my father really do now).
In general, we all should try to emit less carbon because of transports.

Dear Alice,
Many thanks for your comments. My father in actually using a fully electric car, and we buy sun-produced electricity by our provider. My footprint however is bad…  for my daily transportation I use a traditional car and I travel a lot for sport competitions. Thanks to the information I got calculating my footprint I plan to change my strategy and in the future use more public transportations!

I do online school, so I don’t have to drive to school or ride a bus. But my carbon footprint still isn’t great. I think one of the main factors that cause my footprint be so high is I traveled more than usual this year.

My carbon footprint is not very good either. It's pretty much based on eating meat, driving a diesel truck, and the amount of electricity we use each year. I also travelled halfway across the country this year, and that did not help my results.

Dear Jillian,
Great!
If I could have the possibility of studying at home my carbon foot print would be the half!
However, this opportunity is not offered in our school…
The only concreate way in my region is to use public transportation in a consequent way.
I will start using the train to meet with my sport colleagues in the weekend!
For the school the car remains the only possibility.
