MY Family Footprint

Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!

If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

My Future Family Footprint

My family's footprint right now is very high, to make sure my future family's carbon footprint is not the same we will work on reducing our energy and gas use. I will have solar panels to power our house using the sun to emit less carbon and our electricity bill will be less expensive! When buying appliances we will make sure to buy products with the "ENERGY STAR" approval on it, so I know they will be efficient and help the environment.
We can use LED lights, they emit less carbon and are even brighter than fluorescent bulbs. Another way I can make sure we are helping the environment is making sure we have a compost, recycling, and trash can in our kitchen so we can efficiently sort our waste. We will live close to my children's school so they can walk to school and we can preserve energy and gas that goes into the car. I can either take the bus to work or buy an electric car, which will be easy to power with our solar panels! If we go on vacation I will make sure to buy economy tickets so there is more people being transported even though the same amount of carbon is  being emitted, it would be like carpooling. I would install a programmable thermostat so it will automatically turn off when we are not home. Overall, I will make sure our house is environmentally safe by getting solar panels, energy effeicient appliances, reducing the amount we drive and travel, and making sure to recycle and reuse as much as we can.
These are just some ideas on how to save energy. If you want to learn more here is the link I used:
