MY Family Footprint

Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!

If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

Turning off lights when not in use and using low electricity lights can make an impact in your carbon footprint. According to a study detailed in https://www.greenmatters.com/home/2018/ … ns-2017LED lighting uses an average of 40 percent less power than fluorescents, and 80 percent less than incandescents, to produce the same amount of light. So, by using LED lights, your carbon footprint can be easily reduced. In addition, turning off lights when you leave a room can conserve energy and reduce the amount of carbon dioxide being emitted into the air, and it only takes a couple of seconds.

I totally agree with this. I believe that one of the easiest ways to conserve energy is to do this and turn off the lights in rooms. I didn't know that LED lights are the most eco-friendly lights, and it makes me want to use LED lights more and spread that awareness. The amount of energy we use when keeping lights on is too high, and it is one of the easiest things we can do to improve our carbon footprints and help our environment.

I completely agree with this,  I tend to forget to turn off lights when I leave the room.  One day I left my house and forgot to turn off any of the lights in my room and they were on all day. I am always looking for ways to be more eco-friendly. A great way to conserve energy and bring down your carbon footprint is to turn off lights and have LED lightbulbs.  It is a very easy task and it only takes two seconds.

I definitely agree with this! Turning off the lights when they're not needed is a really simple an effective way to help conserve energy. My family already uses LED lights but we tend to keep them on in areas of our house where they're not needed or when there is still enough light to see. I think remembering to turn off  the lights when you are the last to leave a room, is a great way to conserve energy and creates less CO2 emissions.
