MY Family Footprint

Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!

If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

My family footprint

Lilic

When i calculated my family’s carbon footprint I had some idea of what contributed to my family’s carbon footprint however I didn’t know how much each behaviors contributed to the CO2 emissions of my family’s footprint. I was surprised my family’s footprint was the average for my states area. I found that the number one contributing factors towards my family footprint was transportation. It was a common reason that was found throughout my classmates family footprint results. We saw the behavior in transportation that contributed the most was how many times I took the bus to school and how many kilimeters per week I travel for outside school activities. The second major contributing factor was in my home, I noticed heating was huge towards the my carbon footprint. The other two purchases and food were below the average. We can see that reducing heat and  reducing how much we travel has a big impact towards our footprint. Many can learn from calculating and taking into consideration how much CO2 emissions they produce alone.
