How much does eating locally-produced food help the climate problem? What are the other potential environmental and social benefits of eating locally-grown/produced food? Do you have a food garden in your school or at home? If not, do you want one?

Keyhole Garden Idea
Hello folks,
I am re-posting this over here.
My husband and I are looking into different ways to save water with our gardens here in Florida. Currently we have a small herb garden and several fruit trees that are doing well and have not required anything more than natural rain showers. We would like to next year grow some veggies for salads and such. We have been looking into the Keyhole style of gardening used in dry climates. Have any of you tried this type of garden? here is a link: www.offthegridnews.com/…/loom-gardening-with-no-rain
Over all I think they would look great in a small backyard. I like that they are off the ground too. In our area of Florida water restrictions have been enforced for several summers so planning out gardens that take require low water and have a small footprint is a must. I'm open for other ideas for good cost saving gardens.
Here is that link again to the Keyhole garden site.

I would like to know if anyone else has tried this type of garden before. If you have how has it gone for you? Are there other type of this type of this style of garden out there?
