Local Food is the Best Food
Eating locally produced food is good for the environment in so many ways! First, buying food from smaller, locally owned business helps reduce your carbon footprint because you are giving money to much more sustainable, smaller businesses rather than large monopolies such as Monsanto. Secondly, by buying local food, you reduce the need for international transportation of food products and therefore further reduce your carbon footprint. Growing your own food can help this issue even more... Although it may seem insignificant, all those trips to the grocery store can ultimately be very harmful for the environment. By having an at home garden, you will reduce the need to go out to the store because you have everything you need right at your fingertips!
I have planter boxes in my front yard and it is one of the best sustainable choices my family has ever made. Not only does it save us trips to the store and therefore reduce our carbon footprint, but also, the food ta stes significantly better! Overall, the perks of an at home garden definitely outweigh any bad that could come from it.
