How much does eating locally-produced food help the climate problem? What are the other potential environmental and social benefits of eating locally-grown/produced food? Do you have a food garden in your school or at home? If not, do you want one?

Better for you, Better for the Earth, Better for your wallet
While not everything can be grown throughout the world, there are many crops that can be grown in an area. According to http://www.cuesa.org/learn/10-reasons-s … rs-markets , buying locally has many great benefits. Locally grown foods are generally healthier for you and the environment. Most small farmers don't treat their crops with harmful pesticides. Also, when food is locally grown, the need for packaging and excessive transportation isn't present, so in many cases, buying food from farmers markets is cheaper than buying from supermarkets. Many small farms must compete with big producers to gain business. If we support locally grown food, our society will be healthier, the environment will be cleaner, and economies will be more stable.
Wow! My family buys some locally grown food already but we have never taken into account the benefits of doing so before. This has encouraged me to try and get my family to buy even more locally grown food. We have a nearby farm that sells organic food every week or so. Buying more food from there could help keep our environment healthy.
