How much does eating locally-produced food help the climate problem? What are the other potential environmental and social benefits of eating locally-grown/produced food? Do you have a food garden in your school or at home? If not, do you want one?

The home garden
I live in Switzerland, my grandparents have a big garden (even if they live in near the city centre) where they cultivate a lot of things like tomatoes, potatoes, cucumbers, peppers etc. and often we receive these home grown vegetables. I think this food is more healthy and better for the environment, because it isn't transported from far away so eating this help us to reduce our carbon footprint.
I too have a garden and i think that the fruits and veggies produced by our garden taste way better and more flavorful than store bought produce. so I totally support your claim!
I agree with George if you have a home garden you can easily make home meals which can reduce on money spent and time used to get to the grocery store. plus having a garden will make your home and area around you emit less carbon into the air
I think home gardens are a great idea, but what about people who don't have anywhere to have a garden or the time to grow their food?
That is why people have community gardens. These are areas where people can go and plant food, and also get to be involved with the community. This opens an opportunity for people without space for gardens to have one, and also adds a few jobs. This also cuts down on water waste, as it could be monitored and community usage is the most efficient.
I would also say that people don't even need to make an expansive garden, and they could instead have a little pot where they can plant a type of food. If people can make a little difference in their lives then they could make a huge difference.
I think Henry is hitting the nail on the head... Community gardens are an amazing way, especially if you don't have a plot of your own, to grow food. The only thing is that it would ideally need to be very close to your home, so you can walk, otherwise you would maybe need to drive, and the purpose would be defeated (that is unless you can bike there).
Community gardens are great things, but I think the government overlooks them. It would be good if the gardens were implemented more in big cities. A problem would be space. I think if there was a small scale property system, where each house had a small piece of land to plant, it would make the whole process easier.
I think Jared's small scale idea could work or we could turn parks into large scale food growing areas for the community.
