It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

clothes
Instead of buying brand new clothes people should buy used clothes. Not only does it save money, but it is environmentally friendly. Often the clothes are in good condition and it is a good way to expand the clothes' lifetime. Though the person who bought it has stopped using it someone else might need it.
i agree to this
yea i think going to goodwill or a local thrift store is definitely better for the environment because you're not wasting as much fabric and energy used to make the clothes, and one mans trash is another mans treasure.
Yes, I don’t know why but society makes us think that we have to always have the latest clothes and expensive shoes that are the same as regular, not as priced shoes.
Also, it’s dumb how you can impress your friends just because you’ve got a Gucci belt or the latest Nike shoes that are overpriced and feel the same as a regular belt and shoes. Plus it can help reduce your carbon footprint.
I agree. I get many clothes that were previously used by my older sisters or neighbors. I reuse these clothes and donate the clothes that I no longer want. Donating good quality clothes that you've either outgrown, or just don't want anymore is a great way to reuse materials and is beneficial to the environment.
Yeah, I definitely agree - this is a really good way for someone to be able to reduce their carbon footprint. I think it's really important that people start wearing their clothes for longer and then reusing them or donating them when they can't wear those clothes anymore. The biggest challenge with this would probably be just getting people out of the mindset that they have to always buy the newest trending clothing just to look fashionable for a short period of time. If people just wore their clothes longer and then reused them after it would help the environment a lot.
Yes, I agree that we should wear our clothes for a longer periods of time before throwing them out and when we do, I believe that we should donate them so someone else in need can wear them. This would reduce our carbon footprint by a lot, helping the environments and saving us a lot of money over time.
I agree with this sentiment. Fast fashion and the lack of reusing clothes is a huge problem when regarding pollution. And the simple solution is to wear clothes longer and to reuse clothes when given the chance. I feel like as of the moment society has developed in a way where we don't appreciate the value of certain items and clothes is definitely one of them.
Yes, I agree donating clothes and buying donated clothes would help the world with pollution and also save money.
Wow i totally agree! If everyone donated and thrifted we could make such a difference!
I 100% agree and I think that it would really help reduce the impact on our environment.
If we bought used clothes this would help the environment very much! Great idea!
I think I will take spare lots of resources for the environment which is a great idea
This is definitely something that people should start doing more, as it sames time, energy and resources with the only cost being slightly used clothes.
I agree with this and often the clothes you find at thrift stores can be in good condition. This is a good example of reusing our resources to help decrease the carbon footprint. Also, clothes are good for a while so why are so many people buying more clothes that they don't end up wearing? What do you think would happen if everyone donated their clothes?
I also agree, I work at an upscale thrift store where we actually pay money for people to donate their clothes that are brand names and in good condition. We then price it at an affordable price! Especially buying stuff already worn it can be more comfortable and at a discounted price so it helps you and the enviorment!
I completely agree! Fast fashion is a big issue in the world, but people's greediness gets the best of them. Always try to hand down clothes or buy them off someone else! Even better, give it to a thrift store.
I agree that people should buy used clothes instead of new ones. Maybe even wear hand me downs. Although I haven't worn many hand me downs or used clothes, I feel that we all should reuse clothes by donating the clothes we have outgrown or don't want anymore. This can also be a great way to help out the less fortunate and at the same time reducing our carbon footprint.
I definitely agree with the idea of popularizing thrift stores/ second hand shops over mainstream fast fashion companies, especially considering that those large factories not only pollute our environment and atmosphere, but are known to have their clothes produced by incredibly underpaid minorities in developing countries. The idea of buying and donating from thrift stores really works with the idea of "reusing and recycling" as you're shopping sustainably and ethically, and donating your clothes helps give back to and supply that community, especially for those who rely on these stores as an affordable place to shop.
I agree! When consumers throw away clothing in the trash, it wastes money, resources and pollutes our earth. The clothing in landfill takes 200 or more years just to decompose. Not to mention the textiles generate greenhouse methane gas, leach toxic chemicals and dyes into the groundwater and our soil.
The craze about secondhand shopping/ thrifting is satisfying. Not only are you saving money but you are saving the environment as well. Often people don’t get full use with clothing while the condition is fairly new. I can admit I'm guilty of not wearing clothes that I have bought recently, but I try to donate it and or give it to friends because I know they’ll enjoy it more then I would've ever had.
I too agree! Although before we are able to popularize thrift stores, I think we need to remove the stigma around used clothing. Alongside popularizing thrifting we need to start spreading awareness about fast fashion and its effects on the earth. Over 10,000 items of clothing are sent to the landfill EVERY 5 minutes. Additionally, we need to buy less and be more mindful of the quality of clothing we buy, so each item can last longer. Focusing on the quality of clothes not only lessens your carbon footprint but can also save you money in the long term.
I think this is such a bug contributor, fast fashion causes so much harm !!! I think that we must be conscious when buying from thrift stores and second hand stores to not take advantage as some people resell the clothes they find and sell them for twice the price. When many BIPOC communities rely on thrift stores as their only way to get clothes.
