Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Food and Hunger

Global Warming is definitely causing the decrease in food grown and eaten, but eating food also causes global warming. When we buy and eat foods that are from across the country or even the world, we are paying for those products to be shipped over which can dramatically increase carbon in the air. Furthermore, because of the increase of temperature, many crops are having a harder time growing than they used to, meaning we have less food to buy and eat. I think a way to fix this is to eat more organic and local foods. When foods are organic, pesticides have not interfered with the product naming it better to eat and have not harmed animals. Not only this, but by eating locally, the food doesn’t have to travel as far to reach you.
