Extreme Weather

In the Northern Hemisphere in 2017 and 2018 brought several destructive hurricanes to the shores of North America, the Caribbean, and throughout the Pacific rim. Such extreme weather events are predicted to get more common and more severe with increasing climate change.

Several participating classes in the ISCFC were or are in the path of these storms and we hope for the best for them, their families and communities.

We would love to hear from students affected directly and indirectly by extreme weather events, and also any students who have been following the news this summer.

What are your thoughts about the connection between climate change and extreme weather events? Has this hurricane season increased your concern about climate change or not? Do you think that US citizens and residents (and others in the region) will take climate change more seriously now?

Extreme Weather >

All our fault

Zenone

I probably think that human is the worst enemy of nature because when it comes To extreme weather is a big part of the equation. Who is the gases released by industries and electric generator we heat up the planet Then the weather will get worst and artic areas will soon disapear with them animal that help a lot to mantain the food chain and then all the planet will colapse in a terrible catastrophe.

I’m bothered by politicans who dont want to admit that our planet is suffering and I think we shouldn’t just watch while we sit comfortably. As a ordinary human being I cant to goverment-procedures and order with the law what people should do, BUT I can inspire my family to take care of our nature a little better, as everyone should

Zenone

Indeed the governement don't use there power properly to fight against this world wide situation insted of using all there money for the coronavirus emergency(wich is important to show the humans that they are weak). We should apply for greater  action that are more frequent.

alex11

when is it going to be time to try and solve the problem of global warming.

Zenone

The actions need to be applied now because  if we do not do it now we will just accumulate so many that we will be destroid( wich is nota good thing because animals will be harmed to).

I totaly agree with Zenone

But people are not doing that bad for the environment now when the coronavirus is going on. For example in china are there less co2 going in the air and thats good.

Zenone2

And when it's going to stop every thing bad will reapear

NcawleyBOD7

Unfortunately, climate change is not going to just "stop" or "disappear". We can slow it down quite a bit, but it will never go away. People have made permanent damage and that's almost impossible to fix. Corona has helped with releasing less toxic emissions into our atmosphere, but that does not solve many things. Also, not everything bad is going to reappear. Yes, there are bad things that will not go away, but that does not make them reappear if they were already there from the beginning. If people start taking action and fighting for our planet (political leaders in specific) we can fix this one tiny step at a time. (Also, for a reference on how rapidly the Earth's temperatures are rising take a look at this graph from https://climate.nasa.gov/climate_resour … re-record/ )

. I got most of my information from https://climate.nasa.gov/faq/16/is-it-t … te-change/ .

I was talking of the reduction of  CO2 caused by the coronavirus lock down

Hia

It is our fault if nowadays the effects of climate change are more visible. Then what we deserve finally appeared: a virus.  I think that coronavirus is the best friend of environment. In fact, everything coming against humans has a good effect on the environment. During the lockdown, there is a stop in every human activities, then of course, we were afraid of this virus, but if we take a look at environment: big effect that we thought it could never reappear was a blue sky in China (yes for a short period), or the stop of deforestation in Forest. Maybe we should more focus on the aspect of environment when it directly comes to us, when it directly affects us. Extreme phenomena will make us transform our society, sooner or later.

Zenone2

I totaly agree with this big subject because this disease has already showed we can survive without using public transportation so we can keep it habbit. Then maybe it is more comfortable but walking the short distances will help contrast the ever growing obese population.
