In the Northern Hemisphere in 2017 and 2018 brought several destructive hurricanes to the shores of North America, the Caribbean, and throughout the Pacific rim. Such extreme weather events are predicted to get more common and more severe with increasing climate change.
Several participating classes in the ISCFC were or are in the path of these storms and we hope for the best for them, their families and communities.
We would love to hear from students affected directly and indirectly by extreme weather events, and also any students who have been following the news this summer.
What are your thoughts about the connection between climate change and extreme weather events? Has this hurricane season increased your concern about climate change or not? Do you think that US citizens and residents (and others in the region) will take climate change more seriously now?
Extreme Weather >
Weather now a days
Im finding the weather way more extreme. Like when I was younger in my city it would never snow in the winter but now a days in the winter its always going to snow. thats kinda the same for summer like when I was younger it wasn't as hot but now its like 25C-30C. Im finding that ever since climate change has gotten really worse the weather has gotten way more extreme
Climate change occurs all the time, and there has always been extreme weather events on the planet. The difference now is that EVERYBODY knows when a single event occurs, because of our level of communications technology (this includes the internet). Because of this, people freak out when they hear about extreme weather events occurring at points on the planet on an almost daily basis. So they run around like Chicken Little yelling “the sky is falling!”. Then they make up bullshit claims about CO2 being the cause, since humans as a species can’t accept that there are some things that just can’t be fixed. I strongly recommend you do your own research into it if it concerns you, as you’re going to get outright lies from the green freaks, and skewed views from those that have axes to grind with the energy industry.
Although I understand the point you are trying to make about extreme weather events being natural, I have to disagree because the extreme weather in today's world cannot simply be blamed on the climate naturally changing. Scientists have proved that there is a correlation between climate change and natural disasters being more intense. For example, due to climate change, heat waves are hotter, droughts are drier and hurricanes are more damaging. In the case of the hurricanes, Hurricane Harvey was 15% more intense due to human-caused climate change. To make matters worse, the sea level has risen due to the polar ice caps melting, which also contributes to heavier hurricanes. I find it hard to believe that people are overreacting about the extreme weather when scientists have proven that climate change is linked to the intense weather patterns.

Personally, I have seen the fires that have destroyed many homes and lives in California and I know that these were worse than they should have been because a drought dried the land out.

it is true that weather is changing and climate change is a big factor to that change. things like rising temperatures are the cause of increase in hurricane activity this can happen because of how hurricanes work. hurricanes work by moving across the ocean and taking in warm air this is how hurricanes work. so why then would rising temperatures cause more hurricanes well a hurricane needs warm air in order to work well with rising temperatures comes more hot air and this is why climate change can make hurricanes
