What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!
Food & Hunger >
WEE NEED TO STOP WASTING FOOD!!!!
world hunger is very bad and we need to stop wasting food because the companys that make the food are a big reason for global warming.
i agree friend!!!!
I agree as well. According to https://www.foodaidfoundation.org/world … stics.html one in nine people globally suffer some kind of hunger-related issue. Big corporations need to pay more taxes to fund local food banks and pantries. These have to be pushed for in local goverment and grow into bigger movements.
I agree. According to https://www.epa.gov/recycle/reducing-wasted-food-home, "About 94 percent of the food we throw away ends up in landfills or combustion facilities." Also, considering the fact that in 2017 our world threw away 38.1 million tons of food. This is an insane amount of food wasted. I think that this stems from the fact that in modern day, people who live in first world countries don't think about the needy and other people who might need the food that they throw away. The EPA (sited above), says that if our world manages our food waste and becomes sustainable, we will be able to provide food for those in need. This can be done in many different ways. For instance, a couple of examples of ways to manage our food waste are planning meals ahead so you aren't buying more and more food throughout the week and to store food correctly so that they don't go bad. These are two very easy ways to manage food waste, and it saves money.
I agree. One of the largest contributors to the world’s carbon footprint is food waste. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), “Every year, the world throws out about 1.3 billion tons of food -- a startling one-third of the food produced.” This astonishing amount of food wasted adds to excessive carbon emissions, and is a sorrowful realization about the impact people’s lifestyles have. If people start developing eco-friendly eating habits, like taking only what they need, throwing out as little as possible, and overall doing whatever they can to not waste food. Another issue is that businesses in the food industry tend to throw out food that is damaged in any way, or irregular. If society could work together to decrease this amount of food wasted, natural resources would have less demand and carbon emissions would drastically decrease, preventing further issues like global warming.
Very short and simple which is why i couldn't agree more. As someone who is from the United States, I'm embarrassed at how much food we waste. Don't feel like finishing it? Throw it away! is what it feels like everyone here is thinking. It is concerning how unaware Americans are about their food waste. Please, Don't overfill your plate.

i agree, with the unholy amount of food in the United states alone most of it goes to waste or is just thrown away because it sat for too long. there is a problem all over the world that has been here for millions of years and will be here forever, hunger. everything gets hungry and there are 7 billion humans on this planet we are all hungry.
I completely agree, people do not think about the consequences when they buy in large areas and throw away their food with the excuse that they are no longer hungry. People should stop consuming imported products that encourage climate change and start consuming more locally, and why not make a vegetable garden and compost at the bottom of their garden.
Very true. That reason is why every time i get food somewhere or make some food at home I always underestimate how much i'm gonna eat so I don't waste any food. But I also make sure if I do have some food leftover that I save it and eat it another time.
As most people said above, wasting perfectly good food is not a good thing. We need to take into consideration that some people don’t have the luxury of getting food, healthy, fresh food. There are many solutions in avoiding food waste, we just need to find them and go by them. For example, eat small portions and go for seconds if you need to. If you have leftovers you can create a compost bin so you are putting the food back into the ground. There are many other ways so we need to start thinking of them instead of wasting the food.
I strongly agree with this. people seem to act like wasting food is a big problem but when we add up how much food we waste per day all together i would imagine its wayyyy too much. i also think that major fast food restaurants are a big reason fir global warming because of the way they make food and the way they sell it.
