All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.
Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?
Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!

Are electric cars worth it?
One of the thing that is affecting our planet is how much we use cars. People are often talking about that we should start using electric cars way more because the aren't as bad for the environment. But isn't it more difficult and worse for the environment to make electric cars than "normal" cars? So does it pay off to make them even though their better for the environment when we start using them?
Yes, you could very much say electric cars are indeed worth it for the environment as they emit fewer greenhouse gases than petrol or a diesel car. If the electric car has no tailpipe or is completely electric, it won't produce any carbon dioxide when driving. This is very much important to the environment as using an electric car just for one year can save an average of 1.5 million grams of CO2, which is equivalent to four return flights from London to Barcelona. Although they are very healthy for the environment, the production of electric cars often creates higher emissions than producing a regular car. The lithium-ion batteries are the reason for the high pollution due to its manufacturing process. in order to reduce the emissions caused by the manufacturing of the batteries, people are now trying to figure out how to reuse them.
I think that electric cars are worth it because electricity is less expensive than gasoline which will save you money over time. Also electric cars are good for the environment by admitting less greenhouse gasses in to the atmosphere which gets trapped and starts climate change. You can also get a car like a prius which can use gasoline and electric. It uses less gasoline than other cars which will help the environment.

The adaption of cars to be non-polluting could single-handedly change the way we look at transportation. Cars contribute to 75% of carbon monoxide pollution, and if that was significantly cut down, it would be a huge step - no leap, to a greener future. So yes, there is the upside of making a brighter future with your choice, but there is one big drawback. There is a huge paywall that comes with this choice. Any given electric car costs over 64,000 dollars on average while the average gas car is just under 10,000 dollars. This price, being exponentially higher, means that your choice comes down to how economically viable your current situation is. To conclude, the introduction of the electric car will significantly cut down on carbon monoxide pollution, but unfortunately there is a paywall to stop us from getting to that eco-friendly solution.
I believe that electric cars are worth buying rather than gas fueled cars. Electric cars are better for the air we breathe and are cheaper than gas cars. Since electric cars have no tailpipe emissions, we have cleaner are with more electric cars. They are also more cost efficient. The University of Michigan's Transportation Research found that the average cost to operate an electric car in the united states is $485, while the average cost to operate a gas powered vehicle is $1,117. About three years ago, my mom was picking me up from school and thick clouds of smoke started to come out of her tailpipe. We had to pull over and when I stepped out the car to take a breath, it smelled horrible and it was hard for me to breathe. This shows that gas fueled cars are bad for the environment and electric cars are more worth it.
I agree that electric cars are worth it. My family and I have 2 electric cars which we use to drive to sports events, to school, pretty much everywhere. We only use our gas car when we are driving to Tahoe and we need more room in the car and taking the electric car would take too many stops. We really like our electric cars and they have some very good benefits too. According to EverCharge,(https://evercharge.net/blog/electric-cars-vs-gas-vehicles-what-you-need-to-know/) The electricity used for electric cars is cheaper than gas used for gas cars. In a six-year time period, an electric car will save you approximately 6,000 dollars. Also, as said before, electric cars cans save about 1.5 million grams of CO2 in just one year.
I think electric cars are worth it because it’s better for the environment. Gas powered cars emit greenhouse gases, such as CO2, into the atmosphere and these gases get trapped in the atmosphere. This can cause the temperature and climate to change. Now, although greenhouse gases are essential to support life on earth, too much can be very damaging to the environment. One day, I was standing on the sidewalk waiting to get picked up from an event I just attended, and this car drove by and a huge cloud of smoke from the car blew into my face and I could barely breathe. This incident wouldn’t have happened if it was an electric car that drove by me because electric cars produce zero direct emissions. This proves that electric cars are indeed worth it and a safer and healthier choice for the environment, plus, it improves the air quality.
I think it is worth getting an electric car, but I also think that they can be a little inconvenient sometimes. My family has not yet purchased an electric car because the cars we have work fine, so we don't need an upgrade, but if my family was ready to get a new car we might not get an electric car. This is mainly because we don't a convenient place to plug it in. Some of the good things about electric cars are that they contribute to cleaner air because they don't have an exhaust system, so they don't contribute to greenhouse buildup in the earth's atmosphere. Americans on average pay 15 cents per mile while driving gas-powered cars which adds up to a lot of money, so getting an electric car is cheaper in the long run than a gas-powered car. Electric cars don't run on oil, so you won't need to get oil changes and the brakes generally don't wear out as quickly. An argument against electric cars is that the production of the lithium-ion batteries cause significant emissions of carbon dioxide. However, improvements are being made in the production of the batteries. Here are the links I used:

Gas cars need fuel, fossil fuel.
Electric cars seem to be less polluting, indeed, electric cars uses batteries that aren't renewable. Moreover, when you plug your electric car, some use solar panel, but some use electricity produced by nuclear plants, or heated engines fueled by combustion.
So both of them pollute.
Product electric car need specific materials that are extracted in developing country. Tesla cars looks ecological, but the extraction of cobalt, nickel or lithium are extremely polluting. Moreover, electric car's batteries aren't renewable, batteries's acid/lithium is also extremely polluting.
I would say that electric carS pollute more than gas car. Maybe the development of a new type of battery that costs less fossil materials, and battery that can be renewable, could make electric car more ecological.
Today electric cars don't worth it.
I believe that electric cars are for sure worth it, its just that some people can't afford them. As they continue making them, they will be cheaper and more people will buy them. Right now, companies like Tesla give off a luxury car look, which a lot of people like. Even if some people aren't trying to save the world, they are by getting a luxury car.
Electric cars are worth it because it doesn't require fuel to drive. It uses batteries and decreases pollution.
