It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Your home carbon footprint can be terrible for the environment because that is usually how peoples carbon footprints are very high. Some things that bring up that carbon footprint are not turning off lights when you leave a room, the use of electronics and how long they are on for, overuse of paper, and incorrect garbage disposal. To prevent doing these things all the time do the following: remember to turn off lights when you leave a room, make a mental note if you have to. Always turn off you electronics after use, such as laptops, televisions, gaming systems, and desktops. Reuse paper even if it has writing on it, the more paper we use, the more deforestation there is. Remember to dispose garbage correctly, with each piece of trash in its designated bin, which consists of trash, recycling, and compost. Doing all of this will make the world an overall better place and will make the planet Earth healthier.
I agree, your carbon footprint does reflect some of the effects on the environment and even little things like turning off the lights can be beneficial. My carbon footprint was low or close to average because the environment is something I care a lot about as this is where we will be living for the rest of our life. I am always conscious of what I am ding and I keep the environment at the back of my head. When I'm grocery shopping, I always encourage my parents to bring our own bag and if we forget to always buy paper. Paper bags are more easily recyclable, decomposable, and can be used again for a number of other things. Even though sometimes it can be more expensive it is worth it to not create more trash in landfills. Teenagers especially these days spend a lot of time on the internet. In fact right now, I am using an electronic device. But when I finish, I always try to turn off my device and not use it all the time. Spending more time outdoors can help with this. And finally, the last point you brought up is properly disposing trash. I agree it is important to not buy too much packaging and trash that you do not need. Placing your waste in the correct bins is always enforced and focusing on try to have more recycling and compost will help with not wasting too many natural resources. Overall good job, I completely agree all of these things are important to making life healthier and more sustainable.
