In the Northern Hemisphere in 2017 and 2018 brought several destructive hurricanes to the shores of North America, the Caribbean, and throughout the Pacific rim. Such extreme weather events are predicted to get more common and more severe with increasing climate change.
Several participating classes in the ISCFC were or are in the path of these storms and we hope for the best for them, their families and communities.
We would love to hear from students affected directly and indirectly by extreme weather events, and also any students who have been following the news this summer.
What are your thoughts about the connection between climate change and extreme weather events? Has this hurricane season increased your concern about climate change or not? Do you think that US citizens and residents (and others in the region) will take climate change more seriously now?

Extreme Weather
It has been well known and tested for some time now that climate change is impacting the weather of the planet, particularly what were once rare extreme weather events like hurricanes and tsunamis. This is concerning to me as a person living in the northern hemisphere which is more likely to be affected, and especially considering I have many family members living across the Hawaiian islands, which are very likely targets fro more frequent and devastating hurricanes and tropical storms. It is frustrating at this time to see the number of people across America, some even in our government, who still refuse to believe in the severity of climate change despite the fact that it's affects and magnitude have been scientifically proven time and time again. It seems like until we enact some changes in the way we as a society view climate change, devastating weather events and natural disasters will continue to affect and harm populations across the globe.
