What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Meat production threats
The production of meat poses many environmental risks because of how huge the industry is. According to ourworldindata.org, the world produces more than 320 million tons of meat each year. One risk is that meat production requires huge amounts of space which ultimately leads to deforestation (cattle and animals need to roam around). This can have a huge impact because the more trees that are cut down, the more carbon is able to be released into the atmosphere. Secondly, all these animals need to be provided with food and nutrition sources based on FDA regulations. Even small amounts of food given to animals have been through large amounts of production themselves leading to more carbon emissions from factories. Plus, according to carbonstockstudy.com, "Other important gasses that cause the Greenhouse effect are Methane (CH4) and laughing gas (N2O). These two gasses get mostly produced by agriculture due to fertilization of the ground. The gasses can be found in the digestion of many livestock animals such as cows, pigs and chicken." which means livestock release large amounts of greenhouse gasses. Another issue this industry presents is with the factory emissions that actually processes the meat. Factories release huge amounts of carbon dioxide so every time livestock are killed and their meat processed for consumption, those factories have huge impacts.
