What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Food and Hunger
Food waste is something that the public shy away from when talking about. Most food when produced are spoiled or not eaten each year. Food And Hunger happens all around the world. There is about 526 million hungry people live in Asia who haven't eaten and who need meals. Hunger has also caused deaths in undeleveop countries. About 98% of worldwide hunger exists in underdeveloped countries. Almost 1 in every 15 children in developing countries dies before the age of 5. All because of hunger people don't eat and they need to.
Food waste also has a huge impact on our environment. Approximately 41 million tons of food waste is created every year, while only 6.3 percent of that is sent to composting facilities where it can be processed correctly. Instead, most food waste is sent to landfills, where it contributes to harmful methane emissions that cause global warming. By limiting food waste, we can both limit hunger and slow down global warming.

I agree with both of you. 925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet. We can also help our own carbon footprint by not eating as much meat. The reason why meat emits so much carbon is because to keep the animal alive, you need to feed, water, and give it a lot of land. Cows also release very harmful greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Eating a vegan diet is the best way to decrease your carbon footprint.
I agree with all of these statements. Although a prominent issue, the topic of food waste is often underestimated and overlooked. Over 1/3 of all food globally produced goes to waste along with the annual value of wasted food on a global scale adding up to $1 trillion. Although surprising, these numbers are are an unfortunate reality. There are countless negative effects and downsides to an immense amount of food waste. For example, the majority of food waste ends up in landfills, contributing to global warming due to methane emissions. Food waste has gotten to the point where it not only affects people experiencing hunger, but the world and environment on a global scale. It is important to make considerate choices when dealing with food and it's amount-age. When reducing the amount of food wasted, it not only helps the climate but it also benefits those who are in desperate need for food.
Food waste is a huge problem in our world and it is wasted food that leads to hunger in many communities in poverty. People who can, buy more food than they need, and when not eaten in time which is too common, it is thrown away. The food you waste directly impacts people who are malnourished. Food deserts are also a huge concern. Food deserts are basically places that have little to no access to organic goods and grocery stores where healthy nutritional food can be purchased. People have to drive for miles to purchase fruits and vegetables, and this is a real struggle especially families with lots of kids that are living paycheck to paycheck because the money for gas and food itself are too expensive.
