In the Northern Hemisphere in 2017 and 2018 brought several destructive hurricanes to the shores of North America, the Caribbean, and throughout the Pacific rim. Such extreme weather events are predicted to get more common and more severe with increasing climate change.
Several participating classes in the ISCFC were or are in the path of these storms and we hope for the best for them, their families and communities.
We would love to hear from students affected directly and indirectly by extreme weather events, and also any students who have been following the news this summer.
What are your thoughts about the connection between climate change and extreme weather events? Has this hurricane season increased your concern about climate change or not? Do you think that US citizens and residents (and others in the region) will take climate change more seriously now?

Extreme Weather
The severity of our weather on Earth had increased rapidly in the past few decades. This comes in the form of higher overall temperature, rapid floods, and increased storm activity. For rainfall, studies have shown that there has been an 0.08-inch increase of precipitation per decade over land areas worldwide.
An increase in temperature has occurred in the now common, unusually hot summers from the 1970s to today. Also, the regular cool-downs during the winter have not prevailed recently. Additionally, storm activity has increased in the gulf in the past 20 years due to the escalation in temperature. We need to take action in helping control these extreme weather conditions and save our Earth.

I am very surprised to see this information and as I read the document from your link I was shocked to see the rise in our temperature so high in the past 30 years. This is showing that something that us humans is not working. I think that this got way out of hand and when we noticed something we should have done something about it right away. This is coming to a point where it's scaring others and scaring me as well. This really makes me think that every little thing I do may somehow affect the Earth. I don't think that many people around the world actually consider what effect their action has on our planet and that needs to change immediately if we want to have a healthy and safe environment to live on.
