Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Beef

Beef is a staple of the American diet, and it is eaten in large quantities here. However, according to PETA "A single cow used for milk can drink up to 50 gallons of water per day—or twice that amount in hot weather—and it takes 683 gallons of water to produce just 1 gallon of milk. It takes more than 2,400 gallons of water to produce 1 pound of beef". This is an extreme amount of resources that are being put into cows. With an increasing global population, water is already expected to become even more scarce. Many people don't want to go vegetarian, but they don't actually have to. Chicken and other poultry can give the same nutrients and protein as beef, but is much better for the environment. If people can give up beef and eat poultry instead, it could have a huge effect on the environment.

I think you go too far about waste of water because beef brings better things than chiken or porc.First of all i think most people prefer the tatse of beef compare tatse of chicken. And to make 1L of Coke we need to use 100L of water. So your idea of waste of water about beef it's negligible.
