In the Northern Hemisphere in 2017 and 2018 brought several destructive hurricanes to the shores of North America, the Caribbean, and throughout the Pacific rim. Such extreme weather events are predicted to get more common and more severe with increasing climate change.
Several participating classes in the ISCFC were or are in the path of these storms and we hope for the best for them, their families and communities.
We would love to hear from students affected directly and indirectly by extreme weather events, and also any students who have been following the news this summer.
What are your thoughts about the connection between climate change and extreme weather events? Has this hurricane season increased your concern about climate change or not? Do you think that US citizens and residents (and others in the region) will take climate change more seriously now?

Climate Change
I believe climate change is most definitely real and is happening now more than ever. Although many may disagree, the human race is responsible for climate change and the recent weather disaster's around the world. When humans burn fossil fuels for electricity, heat, and transportation, carbon dioxide (a greenhouse gas) is released into the atmosphere. The author of the article "How Climate Change Is Fueling Extreme Weather" agrees that, "massive increases in carbon dioxide, methane, and other greenhouse gas emissions have caused the temperature on our planet to rise."(earthjustice.org) The increase in temperature has caused climate catastrophes and explains the cause of the increase in hurricanes because hurricanes are caused by the energy from warm water. More than likely humans probably won't take climate change more seriously, some will and others won't, because the human race cares more about politics and money than the Earth they live on. Humans need to start taking climate change more seriously because humans are the only one's who can help lessen this serious situation.
I also believe that climate change is happening now more than ever. Humans are causing more carbon emissions now than any time and destroying the environment. We are experiencing weather disasters which most are getting worse because of the climate change.
