Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

It is better to eat vegetarian meals because it doesn’t harm as many animals as if you were to eat meals with meat.

I respectfully disagree with this statement, as eating vegetarian meals not only harms certain species of plants (the ones that we eat), but, it also may harm certain herbivores that may eat that type of plant, also, the animals that we consume either repopulate, or we allow them to repopulate, and therefore we don't really harm that certain species.

I disagree with your opinion on eating vegetarian meals. I believe if we where to only eat plants other animals who also consume plant but only have that as their source of food and energy will not have the sufficient amount of food available for them. Otherwise we humans can consume both, which helps stabilize the amount of plants available for others and the population of livestock. Also cows release methane which is harmful and is one of the greenhouse gasses that are causing our earth to warm up.

I also disagree with your opinion. The world is an ecosystem where every animal/human preys on different animals. Without this, the world would be overpopulated and more animals would die due to hunger and lack of shelter/space. Cows release methane as well, this causes a surplus of methane which would cause global warming. Consuming animals is ok and no one should see this as a problem. Everyone has their own opinions however this is straight facts.
