Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Food Consumption

It is a well known fact that we humans are naturally inclined to eat food that pleases our taste buds. But is temporary fulfillment necessary? In my opinion, no. I think that we should see food as a necessity rather than an “enjoyment factor”. If we view food this way, then there would be less of a reason to overconsume it. Food production and transportation contribute to the Enhanced Greenhouse Effect after all. So if we stop buying and eating things like junk food, which many consider “empty calories”, then we could decrease our respective carbon footprints.  What do you guys think?
