Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Composting and knowing how to use it

Camillegr

I feel like a lot of people compose but don't know how to use it. So I think the answer is to get people to start gendering

I agree that composting is becoming a lot more popular. In my city (Oakland, CA) we have a compost bin that gets taken by the same people that take trash and recycling. If people knew where this compost was going there could be more incentive to compost. Gardening is a great idea but not very practical for a lot of people in cities (no yard space). I think we should educate and encourage all types of compost smile

Adding compost to your garden will not only fertilize, it can actually feed your soil with a diversity of nutrients and microorganisms that will improve plant growth, compost also increases soil stability.

Yes, I agree I have recently learned how to properly compost. It has made such a a huge difference, and I feel so much better about myself. Composting helps the earth in so many ways, and I think more people should start to do it on a regular basis. (maybe workshops at schools to teach how to do it properly)

i agree with what your saying but adding your compost to the garden can help then garden and make the soil more fertile. But  yes a lot of people just compost thinking it’s hood which it is but they don’t know what happens to it

Yes, I can agree with you that many people don't know how to compost properly or even use it but there are many communities out there that teach people how to use it like using it for the soil in the garden.

Composting is such an amazing and easy way of giving back to the environment. I fell like many people are family with the concept but don’t actively take part in it. Even if they do lots don’t realize the extent of items that can be composted. These include paper towels, napkins, and really any food soiled paper product. If you don’t compost this can also have impacts. When food is throw integral garbage it can get trapped under other garbage. This will trap heat and produces more methane due to the lack of oxygen.
