Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

The impacts of agriculture

Charlesrm (Canada)

The agriculture business is a huge problem and a bigger contributor to climate change than you might think. As you might know, cows produce methane. All living animals do but cows produce more. Because they are built to live or of a grass fed diet they process their food very thoroughly which produced lots of biproduct in the form of methane. Methane is a big problem because it is a much better containment for heat. Cows alone produce 51% of all greenhouse gasses!

I completely agree. Not only do cows produce massive amounts of methane which directly impacts our atmosphere in our world, but we bring in millions of animals every year solely for our satisfaction. This is why people should turn to a plant-based diet, not only will you not feel guilty for eating all of the things wanted to live, and had feelings and mothers. But also from the sustainability standpoint consider the acid rain, ocean acidification and salinity imbalance, land degradation, rainforest deforestation, and greenhouse gas production people are actively contributing to by eating meat. It’s not fake. These are processes, some partially irreversible, that people are contributing to, we pray for storage individuals who made sacrifices for our freedom and rights, the quality of life and peace of mind, but fail to realize that we can make an equally important contribution to future generations with far less risk and effort.
