What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Treating Malnutrition
Merely giving food to the starved is not enough to solve their issues. Extremely malnourished people tend to have difficulty eating food, even to the point of throwing up or getting sick. As a result, when treated with medical attention, they often have to have sugar and saline solutions given to them orally or through IV lines.
I've done research in the viability of using transdermal patches to similarly administer dextrose through noninvasive means. I think this can be one more avenue of treating hunger in impoverished areas or simply in emergencies like hypoglycemic attacks, though I'd need to work more on this in university.
