What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!
Food & Hunger >
food waste
According to the nonprofit group ReFEd (as cited in the Washington Post)
(1) 1/3 of all food produced in the USA is wasted and never consumed
(2) meanwhile 26 million US adults report not getting enough food to eat
(3) ...according to the UN 821 MILLION people around the world were undernourished in data from 2018
We can do better, fight climate change, and make sure everyone has enough food to eat!
Right?
i agree that there are so many better things that we can do with the food that is just getting wasted now, including giving it to people who are STARVING,i find it ridiculous that there are so many people going hungry while at the same time, so much of the food in the US is being thrown away
I agree. This is very relatable to how families may throw away food if no one will eat it.
I think it is very important that people make an effort to possibly donate leftovers instead of just trashing them after not finishing them. I wonder if it is possible to donate leftovers to food banks and other places to help reduce food waste in the US.
Yeah. I see what you mean. I hope we can actually make this happen. However, I think we could only achieve this if some people stop being exploited and starts sharing instead of taking. I hope there is a campaign supporting this topic.
I agree. We can do alot better then wasting our food that we are given, we could give some food to the people who are starving
i agree, we could also take the leftover food from stores that dosen´t sell and is not expired and transport it to countries that need free food insted of throwing it out.
I completely agree that we could vastly improve our collective carbon footprint, and help make food more accessible, if we could cut down on food waste from farms and stores.
I agree, I have seen placed like buffets charge you extra for what you don't eat but i think this should be more common in places like restaurants and bars.
I totally agree, we definitely should avoid buy as much food that we can't even eat it.
