Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

From using the footprint calculator I learned that eating meat released more carbon dioxide than anything else people consumed. We should all try to eat less meat to lessen the carbon dioxide emissions. With less meat being eaten there will be less land taken by cattle or farm animals waiting to be butchered and open the space for more farmland. With more crops people will be able to feed more people and hopefully lessen the part of the population who is going hungry.

I don't believe that the problem itself is eating meat, I believe it's with the processing and handling of meat that produces carbon dioxide from the  machines used to take of of the meat. What needs to change is making machines more fuel efficient.

I learned that eating meat realeases the most carbon dioxide of all the foods we consume. My mom buys meat from a farm called Bel Campo because they offer meat thats better for the planet, organic, climate psoitive, humane, and regenerative.
