Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

I can see where your going with this but it’s more specific than just eating healthy. There are ways to help reduce your carbon footprint easily with just making simple modifications. You can limit your food waste and compost your leftovers. As well as ditching your plastic, you can start to look for products with less packaging and buy from company’s that use environmentally friendly packaging. Eating less meat or switching to plant based protein can cut your greenhouse gas emissions dramatically. Similarly, cutting back on your dairy especially products like cheese and milk. Finally, producing your own food like growing your own produce and eating from your garden helps in a many ways. Overall, it’s more than just eating healthy—its about the companies you support, your food waste, meat alternatives, sustainable nutrition, and helping the world any way you can.
