Extreme Weather

In the Northern Hemisphere in 2017 and 2018 brought several destructive hurricanes to the shores of North America, the Caribbean, and throughout the Pacific rim. Such extreme weather events are predicted to get more common and more severe with increasing climate change.

Several participating classes in the ISCFC were or are in the path of these storms and we hope for the best for them, their families and communities.

We would love to hear from students affected directly and indirectly by extreme weather events, and also any students who have been following the news this summer.

What are your thoughts about the connection between climate change and extreme weather events? Has this hurricane season increased your concern about climate change or not? Do you think that US citizens and residents (and others in the region) will take climate change more seriously now?

Natural disasters

Many natural caused disasters are more common in the recent years because of rise of temperature in the world and in our oceans. Co2 affects our entire world especially the weather because the weather depends on what the world is like and what we put in the air. Lowering our carbon footprint may help prevent these natural disasters and they may become less and less common and save many lives.

I agree, many extreme weather events are caused by global warming, which is caused by Co2 emissions like you said. This is a big issue that we need to make people aware of and help them lower their carbon footprint.

Aranji.

Yes, climate change has also caused the water to rise, and hurricanes only really occur when the water is warm, so when it gets hotter, it might occur more often. And Co2 emissions cause global warming, so that can lead to even more disasters.

Natural disasters but may I say not natural disasters because natural is referring not by the intervention of the human being. This change in climate and the ecosystems, of course, is the effect of the irresponsibility of natural resource use.

Now more than ever, and we don't have time. We need to be conscious about the damage that we are doing to hearth and start to think about technologies that help and co-exist with nature.
