What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

More sustainable eating

I think being vegetarian, vegan, or just watching the amount of animal products you consume can make an astronomical difference in your CO2 emissions. Data had indicated that if every American citizen went vegetarian for just one day, we would save 100 billion gallons of water, 1.5 billion pounds of crops, 70 million gallons of gas, 3 million acres of land, 3 million tons of soil erosion, and 4.5 million tons of animal excrement. In just a day. We can make more of an impact than we think. I have been vegetarian for about a year and 3 months, and I think it has made a slight impact. I have not bought any meat for over a year and some friends and family have been inspired to go vegetarian or pescatarian or start watching their meat consumption. It is extremely difficult to have a good environmental impact, but if we all take small steps in the right direction, we can help save our environment.

I agree. I think that cutting out something in your diet or going vegetarian or vegan can make an impact even if it is small.

I find those statistics quite fascinating. It’s just insane how much of an Impact we can make if we just all came together even for a day. Although I don’t necessarily believe in going full vegetarian, I do understand it. I just think a little meat here and there is really good like you mentioned in your post about just being more aware of how much meat you’re eating. But that’s just my opinion. I love your ideas and thanks for sharing these statistics!

I also think that going vegan will have a big impact on our carbon footprint and might even inspire people around us to do the same. Cutting out meat would help the planet a lot.
