Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

Reuse & Repurpose, Bioplastic and other alternatives.

Reusing and repurposing materials, is key to having a low carbon footprint and a healthy environment. One discovery that I made this year was bioplastics. Bioplastics are plastic materials produced from renewable sources, such as vegetable fats and oils, corn starch, woodchips, sawdust and recycled food waste. Bioplastic can easily be made with water, cornstarch, glycerin and vinegar. What is so amazing about bioplastic is that it degrades very fast and if an animal consumes it, it will not harm them. There are also other ways to live a sustainable lifestyle. For example instead of throwing out old clothes you can use the fabric to make something new or donate it. Using glass instead of plastic is also good for the environment. For my lunch I have reusable containers made of metal and glass instead of plastic ones. I also reuse glass bottles to keep plants in or reuse as something else.
