Strategies for Study Group Success
Choose
a leader for each meeting
Rotating the leadership helps all members take ownership
of the group. It’s your group.
Set
meeting goals
Begin each meeting by compiling a list of questions you want
to address; an agenda.
Adjust
to different personalities
Don’t just study with people who are your best friends
and are just like you. Seek out those who can be useful members
of your group. Then your group work will reflect real life.
Set
general goals and a schedule
Have a goal for the day, and for the quarter.
Meet
on a regular basis
Make it manageable, and take the meetings seriously.
Create
study materials
Have each member find information to compile, photocopy, and
review for the other group members.
Help
each other learn
Teach each other; make it your responsibility for everyone in
the group to learn.
Pool
your note-taking resources
Compare notes with each other, and fill in the gaps.
