In 1960, Mason County's population of 16,251 included only 5 African Americans, 35 Asian Americans, and 363 Indigenous Americans, members of the Squaxin Island Tribe and Skokomish Tribal Nation. Exclusionary practices insured that the county remained 97.5% White. By 1990, the population had more than doubled to 38,341 and had begun to diversify, but 91% of residents were recorded in the census as non-Hispanic White. Continued population growth by 2020 gave the county a population of 65,726 of which 25% reported themselves as Latino or not White. In the maps below, move through the decades.
