SAC Minutes – Sept. 30, 2012

Attendees: Magan Do (2nd year Day MSW), Marie Loeb (2nd year EDP MSW), Janell
Vaughn (3rd year EDP MSW), Pricilla Dean (Advanced Standing MSW), Angeli Bhatt
(2nd year Day MSW), Virginia Eader (2nd year Day MSW), Alissa Luis (2nd year EDP),
Mahogany Timmons (2nd year EDP), Emiko Tajima
Agenda Items:
1. Vote on finalized schedule: 1st and 3rd EPD weekends
2. Approve bylaws
3. Overview of subcommittees, members, assignments
Bylaws discussion and resulting outcomes:
# of students entering into the program this school year:

• 72 EDP
• 122 Day
• 70 Advance Standing (higher this year- usually around 44 students)
• 7 PHD (total enrolled 50 students)
• 45-50 per year BASW

Discussion:

• BASW: 4 members- OSSW similar activities as SAC, but separate activities- Should OSSW election be the same as SAC election? Nominations from within OSSW or BASW. OSSW has weekly members- rotate so that always representation from OSSW.
• Concluded that 4 representatives from the OSSW will be part of SAC- junior co-chair and senior co-chair as well as 2 other OSSW members.
• PHD will have 2 students in SAC
• Advance Standing will be 2-3 students depending on cohort size (provision as 2010-2011 advance standing is an extremely large cohort) For Bylaws: BASW SAC representative if accepted as an advanced standing student, will automatically become an advance standing SAC representative. No more than one BASW student should be grandfathered into SAC. If more than one representative than all will be subject to election. Advance standing election should take place at the end of B term.
• MSW 1st year day- 4 members + 1 program committee member
• MSW 2nd year day- 4 members + 1 program committee member
• EDP- table EDP SAC will decided at October 22nd EDP SAC meeting and
• reported at next meeting.

Discussion of standing committees, to be finalized at next meeting:

• Practicum
• MSW Program Committees
• BASW Program Committees
• Health & Safety

Proposal of subcommittees, to be finalized at next meeting:

• Bylaws
• Funding
• Social
• Community engagement committee

Discussion: lobbying committee &/or social committee that oversees parties and
retreats,
Process of voting: Idea presented at initial meeting of the quarter, voting will take place
online between meetings. Outcome of vote will be announced at following meeting.

Confirmed Dates:

• Next SAC meeting: October 21st- All interested SAC members welcome to attend
• Fall Party: November 18th
• December annual retreat: December 9th

Action Items:

Action: Magan to follow up on: Program Committee- One person observing, One person
voting for EDP- elections will take place 2nd year
EDP SAC will decided at October 22nd EDP SAC meeting and reported at next meeting

Finalized: Schedule for SAC meetings will be 1st and 3rd EDP weekends of the quarter
from 5:30-7pm other than Fall quarter which will take place the 1st and 2nd EDP
weekends due to open meeting for earlier elections. The second meeting of the fall
quarter will be an open meeting for potential SAC representatives to attend. Elections
will take place the first week of November. All SAC meetings will coincide with EDP
weekends.

Action: Winter SAC Meetings: Emiko to provide dates for EDP weekends so schedule
can be decided

Temporary Social Committee meeting- Priscilla, Allie & Angeli- they will advertise for
open meeting and plan all sw fall meeting
Action: Mahogany to create shared space for SAC
