Oxfam America is an international relief and development organization that creates lasting solutions to poverty, hunger, and injustice. Together with individuals and local groups in 94 countries, Oxfam saves lives, helps people overcome poverty, and fights for social justice. We are one of the 17 affiliates in the international confederation Oxfam.
Oxfam is currently accepting applications for two of our volunteer leadership programs – the Oxfam Action Corps and the CHANGE Initiative. The Oxfam Action Corps (www.oxfamamerica.org/actioncorps) is our community organizing program provides the opportunity for local activists to develop essential leadership skills as social change agents while encouraging civic engagement and heightening their awareness of their own cultural worldview within their local community. The CHANGE Initiative (www.oxfamamerica.org/change) is our national student leadership and organizing program.
Members of the Seattle Oxfam Action Corps will engage in grassroots organizing that supports Oxfam’s GROW campaign—to change the currently unsustainable global food system which causes hunger and crippling inequality that will worsen as population grows—to create systemic changes to empower (and in many cases, re-empower) growers (such as local farmers) and consumers to end abject poverty and expand capacity for new demand.
