AAUW Seattle Oct 19 UW Breakfast Program

A First Hand Look at the Women of Tunisia
by Johnna White & UW Women’s Center Program Update

Saturday, October 19, 2013 – 9:30am – 12 pm

University of Washington, Parrington Hall, Seattle

Open to the general public – No need to be member to attend.

Following our very successful meeting held on the University of Washington campus last fall, AAUW-Seattle members and their guests are once again invited to the campus as guests of the UW Women’s Center, which is an AAUW Member Partner of the Seattle branch.

Johnna White, Program Manager in the Women’s Center and graduate student at the Evans School of Public Affairs, will talk about her recent trip to Tunisia where she was hosted for two weeks by the Center for Arab Women Training and Research.  Johnna will briefly discuss her experiences in Tunis, including the various perspectives that the Tunisian women and men shared with her on the evolving status of women pre- and post-revolution and their outlook for the future.

Following Johnna’s talk, we will hear an update on some of the other amazing achievements and programs of the Women’s Center.  There will also be representatives from various student women’s groups on campus at the meeting, and we will update them on the benefits of AAUW.  Please join us for this fabulous meeting with our UW Women’s Center partners!

  • Menu: $10 – A continental breakfast of coffee, tea, and pastries will be served.
  • Location:  Parrington Hall (next door to the Women’s Center).  Take the elevator to the third floor and turn to your right.  The Forum is at the end of the hall.
  • Directions: Parrington Hall is on George Washington Lane up a hill from the underground Central Parking Lot just off of 15th Ave NE and NE 41st Street.  It is east of the Women’s Center in Cunningham Hall. (See the campus map at http://www.washington.edu/maps/print/?place=182.)
  • Reservations: required by Tuesday, October 15.  Contact Pauline Barrett – finance@aauw-seattle.org or check our web site at http://aauw-seattle.org/programs/ to sign up via PayPal.

Parking:  Street Parking is hard to find here.  The best option for parking is UW Central Parking Lot (Gate 1) located on 15th Ave. NE & NE 41st St. underneath Red Square.  There is a $10  charge when you enter.  Stop at the ticket booth for directions to Parrington Hall and a parking permit. If possible, park on the first level of the garage and walk out past the ticket booth.  Parrington Hall, a large red brick building, will be on your right and slightly uphill just past Cunningham Hall, a small yellow/tan house.  There is also an elevator in the parking garage that will bring you up at ground level.

Handicapped Parking: There are handicapped spaces in the UW Central Parking Lot.  Ask the attendant in the ticket booth for directions when you enter.  There are also a very limited number of handicapped spaces between Parrington Hall and Cunningham Hall.  To reach these spaces, enter Gate 2 from NE 45th St. near the Burke Museum.  Ask for directions and a handicapped parking pass at the ticket booth. (check campus map at http://www.washington.edu/maps/print/?place=182)

Carpooling is recommended!
