Volunteer Opportunity: Admissions Workshop Weekend- 11/11

We would like to invite you to volunteer at our largest upcoming event Admissions Workshop Weekend (AWW) on Saturday, November 11th hosted by the University of Washington Dream Project. We have a lot of students signing up and we still need volunteers!

What is AWW?

AWW is a one-day getaway for high school seniors to finish personal statements and college applications, as well as participate in a resource fair, workshops, and receive information about many post-high school plans. In past years, students have responded that the event provided support and resources that they found beneficial.

What is Dream Project?

UW Dream Project is a student-initiated program on campus that focuses on supporting students in navigating complex systems such as the workforce, financial aid, and college applications. Dream Project sees that due to historical and institutional racism, the U.S. education system does not support every student equally. We believe that neither race nor socioeconomic status should predict any outcome. We go on weekly visits to support our mentees and through our various events throughout the academic year we support students with their post-high school plans.

How can I help?

As high school students consider how to present themselves in their applications and craft their personal statements, volunteer writing tutors offer support and feedback along the way. Volunteers will also be needed to assist students who will be working on their FAFSA/WASFA application and scholarship applications, as well as helping students with resumes and other support they may be seeking. Volunteering is typically scheduled in 3-hour shifts and lunch is available for all-day-shift volunteers. There will also be snacks, and coffee provided for everybody.

When and where is AWW?

Whether you volunteer for one shift, or the whole day, your time and attention are so appreciated! Volunteers in the past have found their time at this event both enjoyable and extremely rewarding. There will be an opportunity for shifts from 8:45AM-12:00PM and 12:30PM-3:45PM, or an all-day shift from 8:45AM-3:45PM. A mandatory orientation will be required at the beginning of whichever shift you are volunteering for. The event is at Mary Gates Hall at the University of Washington, and parking is available and free!

Please fill out the volunteer survey at this link to register as a volunteer.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Thank you!
