Spring 2018 Graduation info for graduating students – posted 5/1/18

Much pertinent information regarding graduation, both the School of Social Work’s Graduation Celebration and UW Commencement, is below. Please review this email and the SSW Graduation Celebration FAQ page for all information regarding graduation.

Deadline to apply for graduation

• BASW students’ deadline to apply is April 16^th. Students should meet with Nicole Guenther. If you have not met with her yet, please do so ASAP.
• MSW students should have submitted a master’s degree request already at: https://www.grad.washington.edu/student/mastapp.aspx per Lin Murdock’s email sent on Monday, March 27^th. If not, do ASAP.
• PhD students should follow directions sent by the PhD Program Office
• Students who are graduating Autumn 2017 through Summer 2018 are eligible to walk in the School of Social Work Graduation Celebration and have their names appear in the SSW Graduation Celebration program
• Students who are graduating Autumn 2017 through Summer 2018 are eligible to walk in UW Commencement. Students who request their degree by 4/13 will appear in the UW Commencement Program (Summer grads will be in next year’s UW program)

Starting today: RSVP for SSW Graduation Celebration – due May 4^th

• School of Social Work Graduation Celebration RSVP at https://catalyst.uw.edu/webq/survey/sswstsrv/343432
• Due Friday, May 4th at 11:45 PM.
• RSVP is used to determine how many people are expected to attend for purpose of dessert reception as well as for disability accommodations.

April – Student performances in the SSW graduation celebration event

• In addition to having the opportunity to submit photos/slides for display during the celebration (more info on this coming soon), there is an opportunity to have 2-3 student presentations/performances take place during the program for SSW Graduation Celebration. These presentations can be singing a song, performing a spoken work piece, a poem, or similar live performance. If you are interested or know someone else who would be great, please let us know the name and type of performance ASAP by emailing sswstsrv@uw.edu and we’ll follow up with you/them. Even if you’re not sure about wanting to do it, please let us know now if you want to be contacted.
• Students will need to video record (phone video is okay) and submit their performance/presentation by April 23rd to sswstsrv@uw.edu. The video submission should be between 2-4 minutes and should include the full piece, as if you would perform it at the graduation celebration. Selections will be made to ensure a variety of the types of performances and cohort representation.

April 26^th

• School of Social Work Graduation Celebration general announcements available for pick-up in the Student Services office (Room 23, Office hours 9:00-5:00pm, Wednesdays until 6:00pm)
  • 5 announcements per student
  • If you are an EDP student and cannot pick up announcements during office hours, we can leave them in your mail file but you must request them by emailing sswstdnt@uw.edu.

May 3^rd:

• The SSW Office of Student Services has a limited number of donated caps and gowns for undergrads and graduate students (as well as a few degree-colored hoods) available for graduating students to borrow who are facing financial constraints. Starting on May 3^rd, please visit our office in room 23 to pick up a cap and gown. We have various sizes available. This is on a first come, first served basis.
• If there are extra announcements available, students can pick up 5 additional announcements on a first come, first served basis.

May 2nd-May 20th:

• All orders for caps and gowns, class rings, and parking passes must be ordered through the Registration/Order form found on the UW Commencement website – regardless if you are attending UW Commencement or not.
• Register on the Registration/Order form to participate in UW Commencement through UW Commencement website

June 7^th: School of Social Work Graduation Celebration 7:00-9:30 PM (Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmudson Pavillion)

• Students should arrive by 6:00 PM
• Dessert reception will follow the graduation celebration

June 9^th: University of Washington Commencement Ceremony at Husky Stadium 1:30-4:30 PM

• Students should check in at 12:30pm.

ALSO – a reminder to save copies of your syllabi from CANVAS and your practicum evaluations from STAR BEFORE you graduate.  Those both become unavailable to you after graduation.
